1) Ask: Calm or Not Calm?

Point to the visual. Use one prompt, then wait.

2) If Calm

Continue task/routine. Use schedule/timer as needed.

3) If Not Calm → offer the menu

Teacher says: “What helps? Break, Help, or Squeeze?”

  • Keep all 3 available. Do not add extra options in the moment.
  • No bargaining. Do not lecture or explain.

4) Student selects (any response counts)

  • Point, touch, look, say, sign, hand you a card, or walk to the option.
  • Deliver immediately (within 3 seconds).

5) If student does not choose

Wait 10 seconds, then adult chooses and delivers.

  • Use least-to-most prompts if needed.
  • Default if unsure: Squeeze.

6) Return quickly

Teacher says: “All done. Calm or Not Calm?”

  • Support is brief. Return to task fast.
  • If recovery is consistently <2 minutes, consider Supported-only (+ WALK).
