How to use:
Choose accommodations that match the student’s needs. Paste into a 504 plan and adjust details (timing, supports, settings).
This library provides sample templates to support educational teams and must be individualized.

Category A: Environmental Accommodations

A1. Calm Corner Access

"Student will have access to the designated Calm Corner space without requiring verbal permission. Student may use a non-verbal signal (card, gesture) to indicate need for regulation break."

When to use: Students with anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, or who struggle with verbal requests.

Legal basis: Supports FAPE by providing appropriate learning environment.

A2. Visual Supports Display

"Student's workspace will include Ocean Zones visual supports (character cards, zone poster, breathing technique cards) within arm's reach for independent reference."

When to use: Students with executive function deficits, visual learning preference, or memory challenges.

Legal basis: Provides equal access to curriculum materials.

A3. Preferential Seating

"Student will be seated near Ocean Zones regulation tools and visual supports, away from high-traffic areas and sensory distractions."

When to use: Students with ADHD, sensory processing disorder, or distractibility.

Legal basis: Minimizes barriers to learning environment.

A4. Sensory Tool Access

"Student will have access to Ocean Zones sensory swatches and fidget tools during instruction without needing to request permission."

When to use: Students with sensory processing needs, ADHD, or anxiety.

Legal basis: Supports sensory regulation needs for equal access.

A5. Reduced Visual Clutter

"Student will receive Ocean Zones materials with simplified visual layout (2 zones instead of 4, reduced text, larger images)."

When to use: Students with visual processing challenges, autism, or cognitive disabilities.

Legal basis: Provides accessible format for curriculum materials.

Category B: Instructional Accommodations

B1. Pre-Teaching

"Student will receive 5-minute pre-teaching of Ocean Zones lesson content (characters, breathing techniques, concepts) before whole-group instruction."

When to use: Students with processing delays, language delays, or who need additional processing time.

Legal basis: Provides equal opportunity to access grade-level curriculum.

B2. Extended Processing Time

"Student will be given extended time (up to 2x) to identify zones, select regulation strategies, and complete Ocean Zones reflection activities."

When to use: Students with processing speed deficits, language delays, or cognitive disabilities.

Legal basis: Accommodates processing speed differences.

B3. Simplified Materials

"Student will receive modified Ocean Zones materials focusing on 2 zones (Blue/Manny and Green/Stella) with simplified vocabulary and visual supports."

When to use: Students with intellectual disabilities, significant language delays, or autism.

Legal basis: Provides access to curriculum at appropriate level.

B4. Verbal Repetition

"Teacher will repeat Ocean Zones instructions, breathing technique cues, and zone identification prompts a minimum of 2 times with visual supports."

When to use: Students with auditory processing disorder, hearing impairment, or attention deficits.

Legal basis: Ensures comprehension of verbal instruction.

B5. Hands-On Demonstration

"Student will receive hand-over-hand or physical prompting support during Ocean Zones breathing techniques and sensory exploration activities."

When to use: Students with motor planning challenges, developmental delays, or visual impairments.

Legal basis: Provides physical access to curriculum activities.

Category C: Behavioral Accommodations

C1. Scheduled Regulation Breaks

"Student will receive scheduled 5-minute regulation breaks every 30 minutes using Ocean Zones breathing techniques or Calm Corner access."

When to use: Students with ADHD, anxiety, or difficulty sustaining attention.

Legal basis: Prevents behavioral escalation through proactive support.

C2. Non-Verbal Zone Communication

"Student may communicate their emotional zone non-verbally using Ocean Zones character cards, color cards, or AAC device instead of verbal responses."

When to use: Students with selective mutism, anxiety, autism, or speech/language impairments.

Legal basis: Provides alternative means of communication.

C3. Breathing Technique Prompting

"When student displays signs of dysregulation, adult will prompt use of appropriate Ocean Zones breathing technique before implementing other behavioral interventions."

When to use: Students learning self-regulation skills, with emotional disabilities, or trauma history.

Legal basis: Teaches coping skills before consequences.

C4. Calm Corner Protocol Modification

"Student may use Calm Corner for up to 15 minutes (instead of standard 10) and may have adult co-regulation support during initial use."

When to use: Students with significant emotional regulation challenges, trauma, or who are learning the protocol.

Legal basis: Provides appropriate level of support for regulation needs.

C5. Positive Behavior Reinforcement

"Student will receive immediate positive feedback (verbal praise, sticker, token) when independently using Ocean Zones regulation strategies."

When to use: Students who need external motivation, with ADHD, or building new skills.

Legal basis: Supports skill acquisition through positive reinforcement.

Category D: Assessment Accommodations

D1. Alternative Response Format

"Student may demonstrate Ocean Zones knowledge through pointing, selecting visuals, or using AAC device instead of verbal responses during assessments."

When to use: Students with speech/language impairments, selective mutism, or motor planning challenges.

Legal basis: Assesses knowledge, not communication ability.

D2. Extended Assessment Time

"Student will receive extended time (up to 2x) to complete Ocean Zones zone identification assessments, breathing technique demonstrations, and reflection activities."

When to use: Students with processing speed deficits or anxiety.

Legal basis: Accommodates processing differences.

D3. Reduced Assessment Items

"Student will complete modified Ocean Zones assessments with reduced number of scenarios (5 instead of 10) or characters (2 instead of 4)."

When to use: Students with attention deficits, cognitive disabilities, or fatigue issues.

Legal basis: Assesses mastery without overwhelming student.

D4. Adult Scribe

"Adult will scribe student's responses during Ocean Zones journaling activities and reflection assessments while student dictates."

When to use: Students with dysgraphia, motor planning challenges, or written expression disabilities.

Legal basis: Assesses emotional understanding, not writing ability.

D5. Visual Assessment Supports

"Student will have access to Ocean Zones visual supports (character cards, zone posters, breathing technique cards) during all assessments."

When to use: Students with memory challenges, visual learning preference, or anxiety.

Legal basis: Provides reference materials to demonstrate knowledge.
