Laminated Desk Reference (Print 5x7 or 4x6)

THE 4 ZONES

🌊 BLUE (Manny) - Tired & Low Energy

Feelings: Tired, sad, sick, bored, sluggish

PRIMARY Breath: Manta Glide Breath

GREEN (Stella) - Calm & Ready to Learn

Feelings: Calm, focused, happy, peaceful, content

PRIMARY Breath: Sparkle Breath

🐚 YELLOW (Shelly) - Excited & Elevated

Feelings: Excited, silly, wiggly, energized, restless

PRIMARY Breath: Spiral Breath

🦀 RED (Crabby) - Angry & Intense

Feelings: Angry, frustrated, overwhelmed, explosive

PRIMARY Breath: Claw Reset

ALL ZONES ARE OKAY!

QUICK CHECK-IN (2-3 MIN)

  1. "What zone are you in?"
  2. Show of hands: Blue? Green? Yellow? Red?
  3. Respond to patterns (movement break, breathing, etc.)

CALM CORNER PROTOCOL

ASK → Student signals/asks

GO → Student goes to Calm Corner

CALM → Use tool (5-10 min)

RETURN → Come back when ready NOT punishment - it's a TOOL!

RED ZONE EMERGENCY

  1. SAFETY FIRST - protect everyone
  2. SPACE - give physical distance
  3. MINIMAL LANGUAGE - "I'm here. You're safe."
  4. TIME - allow 10-20 min to de-escalate
  5. OFFER STRATEGIES - when ready, not before

NEVER force breathing during crisis!

DAILY BASICS

✅ Morning zone check-in (3 min)

✅ Practice 1 breathing technique (3 min)

✅ Reference zones throughout day

✅ Celebrate independent tool use THAT'S ENOUGH!

TROUBLESHOOTING

Giggles? Normal! Keep practicing.

Refuses? Offer choice, never force.

Doesn't work? Practice when CALM first.

Out of time? Just check-in + breath = enough!
