π PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Duration: 12 weeks
Lesson Time: 30-40 minutes per week
Format: 3 phases (Foundation, Integration, Mastery)
π― PHASE 1: FOUNDATION (Weeks 1-4)
WEEK 1: MEET THE SEA FRIENDS
Focus: Introduce 4 characters and connect to feelings
Key Outcome: Students can identify all 4 characters and match to basic feelings
What Students Learn:
- π Manny the Manta Ray (Blue Zone - tired, low energy)
- β Stella the Starfish (Green Zone - calm, ready to learn)
- π Shelly the Seashell (Yellow Zone - excited, elevated)
- π¦ Crabby the Crab (Red Zone - angry, intense)
Activities:
- Character introduction circle
- Feelings connection discussion
- Draw favorite sea friend
- Home connection: Tell family about sea friends
WEEK 2: UNDERSTANDING ZONES
Focus: Teach zone concepts and body signals
Key Outcome: Students can identify zones by color and connect to body feelings
What Students Learn:
- 4 emotional zones (Blue, Green, Yellow, Red)
- Body signals for each zone
- How to identify which zone they're in
- All zones are normal
Activities:
- Zone teaching with body demonstrations
- Scenario matching (call out situations, students identify zones)
- Draw themselves in current zone
- Home connection: Notice zones throughout the day
WEEK 3: BREATHING BASICS
Focus: Introduce 4 foundation breathing techniques
Key Outcome: Students can perform at least 2 breathing techniques
What Students Learn:
- Manta Glide Breath (Blue Zone - gently energizes when tired or sad)
- Bubble Breath (Green Zone - maintains calm focus and peace)
- Sparkle Breath (Yellow Zone - calms wiggly, excited energy)
- Claw Reset Breath (Red Zone - releases tension and big feelings)
Activities:
- Teach each breathing technique with movements
- Practice all 4 breaths together
- Match breath to zone
- Home connection: Practice one breath with family
WEEK 4: SENSORY EXPLORATION
Focus: Introduce sensory swatches and connect textures to zones
Key Outcome: Students can match textures to characters and identify sensory preferences
What Students Learn:
- Different textures help bodies feel different ways
- Alerting textures (Manny - bumpy, rough)
- Calming textures (Stella - soft, smooth)
- Grounding textures (Shelly - cool, weighted)
- Releasing textures (Crabby - stress balls, firm)
Activities:
- Explore various textures
- Match textures to characters
- Create personal swatch collection
- Home connection: Find textures at home
π PHASE 2: INTEGRATION (Weeks 5-8)
WEEK 5: EMOTION MATCHING
Focus: Match emotions to real-life situations
Key Outcome: Students can identify which zone they'd be in for different scenarios
What Students Learn:
- Different situations create different feelings
- How to match situations to zones
- Personal emotional experiences
- Naming feelings
Activities:
- Scenario matching game
- Share personal examples
- Chart class responses
- Home connection: Notice zones in different situations
WEEK 6: ZONE TRANSITIONS
Focus: Understand zones can change and practice using tools to shift zones
Key Outcome: Students can identify zone changes and use tools to transition
What Students Learn:
- Zones change throughout the day
- Tools help move between zones
- Goal is usually Green Zone for learning
- How to choose appropriate tools
Activities:
- Zone transition teaching (BlueβGreen, YellowβGreen, RedβGreen)
- Practice scenarios requiring zone shifts
- Draw/write about zone changes
- Home connection: Notice what helps zone changes
WEEK 7: EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION
Focus: Express emotions through journaling and creative activities
Key Outcome: Students can express feelings through drawing, writing, or other means
What Students Learn:
- Multiple ways to express feelings
- Journaling as safe emotional outlet
- No right or wrong way to express
- Privacy and choice in sharing
Activities:
- Journaling introduction and modeling
- Independent journaling with prompts
- Optional sharing
- Home connection: Continue journaling at home
WEEK 8: PUZZLE INTEGRATION
Focus: Create character puzzles and integrate multiple program elements
Key Outcome: Students connect characters, zones, feelings, and tools
What Students Learn:
- How all program elements connect
- Character, zone, feeling, body signal, breathing, sensory
- Reinforcement of character-zone associations
- Teaching others what they've learned
Activities:
- Create character puzzles (color, cut, assemble)
- Puzzle play and trading
- Teach puzzle to others
- Home connection: Take puzzle home and teach family
π PHASE 3: MASTERY (Weeks 9-12)
WEEK 9: STORYTELLING
Focus: Create emotion-based narratives using characters
Key Outcome: Students can create stories that demonstrate emotional understanding
What Students Learn:
- Story structure (beginning, middle, end)
- Characters can experience zone changes
- Tools help characters feel better
- Creative expression of emotions
Activities:
- Story structure teaching
- Create stories (written, drawn, or dictated)
- Story sharing
- Home connection: Share story with family
WEEK 10: CALM CORNER INTRODUCTION
Focus: Set up and introduce Calm Corner space and protocol
Key Outcome: Students understand Calm Corner purpose and protocol
What Students Learn:
- Calm Corner is helpful space (not punishment)
- Ask-Go-Calm-Return protocol:
- ASK to use Calm Corner
- GO to space with permission
- CALM using tools (5-10 minutes)
- RETURN when ready
- Available tools and how to use them
- When to use Calm Corner
Activities:
- Calm Corner tour
- Protocol teaching and demonstration
- Role-play practice
- Draw ideal Calm Corner
- Home connection: Create calm space at home
WEEK 11: REFLECTION & GROWTH
Focus: Reflect on 11 weeks of learning and identify personal growth
Key Outcome: Students can identify what they've learned and set goals
What Students Learn:
- How much they've grown
- Skills they've developed
- Tools they use most
- Areas for continued practice
Activities:
- Compare Week 1 to Week 11
- Growth reflection discussion

WEEK 12: CELEBRATION
Focus: Celebrate accomplishments and complete program
