Staff Fidelity Checklist

Use weekly (or after staff changes). If items are missed, simplify and retrain.
Daily non-negotiables
Calm / Not Calm first.
We check Calm/Not Calm before giving directions, coaching, or consequences.
Menu is the response to Not Calm.
Break / Help / Squeeze (and WALK only if Supported-only criteria are met).
One prompt, then wait.
No repeated talking, no speeches.
Any response counts as a choice.
Point/touch/look/say/sign/hand card/move to option.
Deliver immediately.
Within 3 seconds. No bargaining.
Return to task quickly.
Support is brief; then back to Calm/Not Calm check.
Keep choices limited.
Choice boards show 2–4 items. Do not expand the Not Calm Menu in the moment.
Use visuals, not lectures.
Point to the visual schedule, timer, or menu. Minimal words.
Onboard new staff in 5 minutes

Script (use the same words every time)

  1. Point: “Calm or Not Calm?”
  2. If Not Calm: “What helps? Break, Help, or Squeeze?”
  3. Deliver: student selects → adult delivers immediately (within 3 seconds).
  4. Return: “All done. Calm or Not Calm?”

3 rules (prevent drift)

  1. One prompt, then wait. No lectures, no bargaining.
  2. Any response counts. Point/touch/look/say/sign/card = choice.
  3. If no choice in 10 seconds: adult chooses and delivers.

60-second practice

  1. Adult A pretends to be the student (calm → not calm → calm).
  2. Adult B practices the script above using the actual visuals.
  3. Swap roles once.
If the program isn’t working
We simplified first.
Fewer feelings, fewer schedule cards, shorter demands, stronger reinforcement.
We checked consistency across adults.
Most breakdowns are adult drift, not student refusal.
